Overwatch League Announces 2020 Schedule Format

We’re coming home.

For the 2020 Overwatch League season, the Boston Uprising is bringing the competition home with multiple homestand weekends right here in Boston. These homestands will be just the first of many future opportunities for you to gather with thousands of your fellow Uprising fans and cheer as part of a live, raucous crowd.

With OWL hitting the road next year, every team in the league will host homestand weekends, not just around the country but around the world. We’re excited to be part of an international league bringing live, professional Overwatch competition to 19 cities across six countries and three continents.

The 2020 OWL season will again feature 20 teams, a 28-match schedule and will run from approximately February through August. Starting in 2020, teams will compete in four divisions of five teams each. This means that the Boston Uprising will participate in the Northern Division, part of the Atlantic Conference, alongside London, New York, Paris and Toronto. Here is what the league will look like in 2020:

Atlantic Conference:
Southern Division: Atlanta, Florida, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C.
Northern Division: Boston, London, New York, Paris, Toronto

Pacific Conference:
Eastern Division: Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Seoul, Shanghai
Western Division: Dallas, LA Gladiators, LA Valiant, San Francisco, Vancouver

The length of the season will stay the same, but OWL 2020 will not be split into stages. Instead, matches will take place every week of the season, and teams will have their own bye weeks scattered throughout the season. Don’t worry: a fun All-Star event will still fall midseason with the season concluding with Grand Finals.

While we aren’t quite ready to announce exactly where in Boston we’ll host our homestands, we are working hard to ensure our events are the best they can be. Playing in front of a home crowd is one of the greatest feelings in competition, and we aim to capture the magic of a live competition. We can’t wait to laugh, yell, chant and cheer with the rest of you, our fantastic fans, here at home.
